Chimera XIX
AWARD WINNER
Honorable Mention for Poster Design in the 2021 AIGA Blue Ridge Annual Flux Student Design Competition
Finalist for Publication Design in the 2023 AIGA Blue Ridge Annual Flux Student Design Competition

Chimera was a student designed, 150+ page journal of arts and literature. The full book was designed by students, and all of the artwork and literature in the book was created and juried by students of Edinboro University. For this edition, the final edition of Chimera, I had the honor of being the Managing Director. I was in charge of a group of about 15 designers as well as a literature team and photography team. I facilitated communications between designers, advisors, contributing artists and writers, and printers. Additionally, I advocated for the publication and made presentations to obtain grants and other funding in order to have the journal produced. As the managing director, I also had the responsibilities of an art director meaning that I helped to establish the design goals and aesthetic and critiqued the designs throughout the process. Additionally, I had the honor of having two of my own projects featured in Chimera XIX. This publication was a finalist in the 2023 AIGA Blue Ridge Annual Flux Student Design Competition.

The images above show promotional materials made for Chimera XIX. The concept of this edition of Chimera was the progression of calm to chaos which is embodied in these posters. The first round of posters was interactive with a chaotic base design and printed, semi-transparent vellum on top of it to act as the calm. The posters were torn to reveal the design and information beneath. These posters won an honorable mention for poster design in the 2021 AIGA Blue Ridge Annual Flux Student Design Competition.
